Flat Roof FAQs

Flat Roof FAQs

How does Vero Beach's humid climate affect my flat roof?

Vero Beach's high humidity can lead to accelerated algae growth, ponding water, and potential roof damage. Regular inspections and proper ventilation are crucial.

What's the best way to protect my flat roof from hurricanes and tropical storms?

Proper installation and maintenance are key. Consider impact-resistant roofing materials and regular inspections to identify potential vulnerabilities.

How often should I inspect my flat roof for damage after a hurricane?

It's recommended to inspect your roof immediately after a hurricane and again a few weeks later to check for hidden damage.

Why is my flat roof experiencing excessive ponding water?

This could be due to improper slope, clogged drains, or debris buildup. Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential.

I've noticed algae growth on my flat roof. Is this normal?

While some algae growth is common in Vero Beach's humid climate, excessive growth can damage your roof. Regular cleaning and treatments can help prevent this.

What causes leaks in a flat roof, and how can I prevent them?

Leaks can be caused by punctures, worn-out materials, improper sealing, or poor drainage. Regular inspections and timely repairs can help prevent leaks.

Our Modified Bitumen Flat Roofs

We used a double layer, modified bitumen roofing system to ensure long-term water resistance for low sloped roof areas.  We also offer tapered and coated roofing options that add insulation and enhanced protection.

This material is crafted by adding modifiers to asphalt to enhance its performance characteristics. The result is a roofing material that combines the traditional benefits of asphalt with increased durability, flexibility, and resistance to extreme temperatures.

Modified bitumen roofs are applied in layers that bond together to form a watertight seal over the property, giving you protection against water intrusion that comes from the heavy rains in our Florida climate.

Unlike traditional BUR systems, which consist of multiple layers of tar and gravel, modified bitumen roofs employ a simpler, yet highly effective two-ply system. This streamlined approach not only reduces installation time but also minimizes your roof’s weight on the building's structure.

Additionally, modified bitumen offers improved elasticity and flexibility at low temperatures, reducing the risk of long-term cracking and leaking. The top layer of the roofing material is often finished with a reflective coating, enhancing energy efficiency by reflecting sunlight away from the building, and helping to lower cooling costs.

We Install New Drip Edge

At Freedom Roofers, we understand that the details make all the difference, which is why we emphasize the importance of installing a new drip edge on our flat roofing projects.

A drip edge is a metal strip installed along the perimeter of a flat roof. This strip plays a key role in guiding water away from the roof's edges and towards the gutter system, thereby protecting the roof's structure and the building's walls from water damage.

The drip edge can significantly enhance your roof's overall performance and longevity. It helps prevent the sagging and deterioration of the roof edges, common issues that can lead to costly repairs later on. The drip edge serves as an added layer of protection against wind uplift, which can be particularly beneficial during hurricane season. By securing the edges of the roofing material, a flat edge helps maintain the roof's structural integrity even under harsh weather conditions.
